![]() ![]() This rekindling of the historic Metaphysical Club address the ideas motivating a group of artists working to blur the line between art and the everyday. We might think of these six Chicago-based artists as neo-Pragmatists, sharing the philosophy’s values of experimentation, sensitivity to context, and the assertion that notions of truth are arrived at through lived experience. The Metaphysical Club was a conversational philosophical club that the future Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr., the philosopher and psychologist William James, and the philosopher Charles Sanders Peirce formed in January 1872 in Cambridge, Massachusetts and dissolved in December 1872.
